The result of their work was introduced to the world in January of Rather than design an entirely new amplifier from scratch, Denney decided to stick with what he knew was a winning design and doubled the power of his beloved AC The unforgettable sound of their jangling guitars would become the standard for great guitar tone for decades. This song, and the frenzy that was to follow this young group in the months to come, would result in VOX becoming the most sought after guitar amplifier in the world. The massive success achieved by VOX in the s laid the foundation for the legacy that continues to thrive nearly 60 years later. Many of the same amplifiers that artists relied on back then are still going strong today.

Again, we have a single input socket feeding a dual-channel preamp with shared EQ, and controls for clean volume, overdrive gain and master volume using Peavey’s old-style pre and post names , bass, mid, treble and reverb. The internal electronics layout and rear panel are identical to the ValveKing 20 MH, with the same speaker, attenuator, recording and headphones output, effects loop and footswitch functions, and the same dual-EL84 output stage.
There’s a punchier midrange and an edgier distortion tone, which team well with the dual-EL84 output stage – making a practically perfect platform for country, blues and classic rock.

He remained active until his untimely death in February His main guitar in the early years was a Les Paul acquired from Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac, which he owned for more than 40 years before selling it in This is the guitar that Gary used on his best selling album Still Got The Blues, and the one he kept by his side until his death. In , Peavey began development on a series of vintage Fender Twin inspired amps, with 6L6 power tubes and two 6C10 pre-amp tubes. These amps had a different sonic signature than the Twin and had their own unique sound.
New Zealand I’ve owned one of these since July this year. I have played through a silverface Fender Twin Reverb for the last 22 years, but the weight of the thing was becoming an issue for me. After it gave me a hernia in June, I started looking into what smaller wattage amp I could buy. Balancing size, tone, and price, I still needed to find an amp that suited my playing style.
I like to play clean hence the Twin , but wanted some of the chime and crunch I used to get from a Vox AC30 a few years back. I also wanted to pretty much dispense with pedals, apart from a little slapback delay for rockabilly. After some research I figured out I still needed enough volume for stage work, but could get by on watts. Time and again, I read on the Net that Fender was the way to go.
But the local guys I spoke to who had actually played the amps side by side in the store and then bought one had all settled for the Peavey Classic At first I resisted this, but when I found out about the Delta Blues with a 15″ speaker, I figured I could get something with a different twist. I picked up one second hand that had already had the tubes replaced, and had tube retainers fitted two common mods.
The reverb is a little different and less spanky than a Fender, but still warm. The vibrato is a bit silly, but used subtlely, quite usable.

The sort of frumpy shape of the Fiesta gave way to variation on a groovy hybrid between a Strat and a Jazzmaster, with double cutaway horns, sort of squashed outwards. Now standard fare was the more-or-less Strat-shaped pickguard, with slightly more refined squiggles than on the previous fetal pickguard.
With all the fat, sweet, snarling Les Paul tone that purists love, the Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV sports a mahogany body with a thick maple cap for the perfect blend of warmth and clarity. The top is finished in high-gloss lacquer, while the back, sides and neck have a smooth satin finish that feels great and lets the wood resonate fully. Period-Correct Pickguard The cream-colored pickguard has been a Les Paul staple dating back to the models of the late s and the early s.
Many players, however, removed the pickguard from their Les Pauls to show off the beauty of the flame maple tops, prompting Gibson to stop installing the pickguard altogether.
