I experience hypomanic episodes at least every two months. I find myself energized, adding to my already substantial list of responsibilities and running circles around my co-workers. In addition to that, I find myself overwhelmed, annoying my family and exhausted after a simple eight-hour shift. My girlfriend has borderline personality disorder BPD. She finds herself plagued with memories, anxiety and intense emotional reactions to seemingly innocuous daily events. These things have made me feel like I was unable to be loved. They made me feel like my relationship was doomed to fail. Close Passion and Fear in BPD Relationships Borderline Personality Disorder is a chronic and complex mental health disorder marked by instability, and interpersonal relationships are often the stage on which this instability plays out. Barbara Greenberg , a clinical psychologist who treats patients with BPD, explains: Often, this emptiness and intense fear of abandonment are the result of early childhood trauma and the absence of secure, healthy attachments in the vital formative years.

Paradoxically, the overwhelming fear manifests in behaviors that deeply disrupt the relationship and pushes partners away rather than pulls them closer, resulting in a stormy and tumultuous dynamic that typically emerges in the early days of dating. When they are in relationships they get very intensely involved way too quickly. But then what comes along with it, a couple of weeks later, is: Everything is done with passion, but it goes from being very happy and passionate to very disappointed and rageful.

Prior to her diagnosis, her boyfriend, Thomas, used to blame himself for her hot and cold behavior. Although each person has their own unique experience, these are some common thought patterns people with BPD tend to have: I must be loved by all the important people in my life at all times or else I am worthless. Nobody cares about me as much as I care about them, so I always lose everyone I care about—despite the desperate things I try to do to stop them from leaving me.

If someone treats me badly, then I become bad.

When the cops showed up they said they saw a red mark on her neck, I should have kept my mouth shut, because I thought I had did nothing wrong and told them what happened, ofcourse they took my words out of context, twisted them around and falsely made me out to be abusive in their police report. This woman may have appeared to be the dream partner that you had spent your lifetime looking for, someone who truly understood you the way no one else ever had.

The bond that you formed with her may have been the strongest you have ever felt for another human being, and you may have very quickly been convinced that this was the person you wanted to spend the rest of your life with. You may at first have tried to ask her about her personality change only to hear from her that it was you who she thought had changed overnight. In fact, you may have found that the more you talked about her new negative behaviors, the more she turned around and accused you of the very same behaviors.
